The Dishwasher Gel trial results

If you read this post, you'll know that I was hesitant about getting "cheaper" dishwasher gel. I had been using Palmolive, and bought Great Value brand out of necessity for the budget.

I've been using it for about a week now, and quite frankly... I can't tell a difference from the Palmolive stuff that cost more! I use the same amount of the Great Value brand stuff (I eyeball it to match the dirtiness of the load) as I did the Palmolive, and the dishes get just as clean. I haven't noticed any "film" on anything lately - that sometimes gets on a scraper or a measuring cup, not on everything, and it wipes off with a towel - but I don't know if that's the refilled rinse aid or the soap.

I guess now I need to check out the price of the powdered stuff and see if I can reduce my expense even more and still maintain clean dishes! Oh, but I need to use up what I have first.

Glad it works just as well. I hope you find the powder cheaper, then I'll know I'm buying the cheaper stuff already. (haha)

from Aliisa:

I just recently switched to a cheaper brand just to try it out. I still use 1/2 as much as they recommend and instead of jet dry, I use distilled white vinegar. I have found that my dishes are still clean and spot free. I guess sometimes the cheap stuff is just as good!!

I had tried the "cheap" gels and it seemed to leave my dishes with a film. Wonder if I was using too much or if vinegar for rinsing would help. Maybe I need to experiment....

Liz, sometimes I get a film on a couple things, but it will wipe off with a dishtowel, and it's not every time.

I'm using RinseAid right now just b/c I bought a BIG bottle a long time ago and am just using it up. I'd say experiment! It could be your water, too, that might make the soap leave film or the rinse aid not work as well. Who knows :)
