Yes, I am still alive in bloggy land. I'm more a lurker these days than a blogger, but my blogging side ran off with the housekeeper. And the housekeeper is just starting to come back once in a while, so hopefully she's bringing my blogging side with her ;)
Life with Susannah for the past month has been nothing short of a learning experience :) And we're still learning! I imagine we'll be learning for years and years and years to come. She is absolutely wonderful and we love her sooo much. I can't imagine not having her in our lives, though I do dream of sleep-filled nights often :P
There have been minutes, hours and days where I've doubted myself, wondering if I'm doing the right thing. Is she eating enough? Is she sleeping enough? How long do I let her stay awake before I put her down for a nap? Did I let her stay awake too long and is that why she's fussing instead of sleeping? Did I eat something to make her fussy? Is my milk supply enough? Is it good quality or poor quality? Why did she wake up half-way through her nap?
All I can do is do my best and trust that God will bring us through :) And remember that for as many poopy and wet diapers as I change, she can NOT be starving and HAS to be getting enough to eat!! She is still overall a very content baby. She still loves to sleep more than anything else, even eating, but we're working on that.
A few days after she turned 4 weeks we started letting her sleep as much as she would at night. She's doing very well, so far she's sleeping between 4 1/2 and 6 hours. It's wonderful!!! We're still working at figuring out what feeding schedule works, but generally she eats about every 2 1/2 - 3 hours in the day.
She's also growing like a weed. She's grown out of some of her clothes already. She also grew out of the Newborn sized diapers. I realized that the day after I bought a big box of them. My little baby is growing!! Last Thursday she weighed 9lbs. 4oz. and is somewhere around 21+ inches long.
Around 3 weeks she started smiling in response to our smiles. She is so cute when she smiles! Especially her big, squishes-her-eyes-shut grins! A couple days ago I was holding her while she was sleeping and she laughed out loud. She hadn't done it before and hasn't done it since, but it was so fun to hear. She doesn't "talk" very much yet, but I'm looking forwards to hearing her coos and babbles.
Here are some pictures of our growing girl:
Last week after her bath I brushed her long hairs into a mowhawk :)
She wasn't too pleased that I was fooling around taking pictures instead of getting her dressed! We finally had the camera at the right time and got pictures of her smiling :)Her big, squishes-her-eyes-shut grin! I love it!!She makes this face alot. I often wonder what she's thinking?
I can't put her cross-ways in her crib anymore. When she stretches out or wiggles too much she ends up running into the side-rails.
And that's our sweet baby girl :)

Miriam--She is SO sweet! Mommy-hood is often a guessing game. While it is a smidge easier after the first babe, it's always a guessing game! :)
Susannah is such a doll--and I LOVE that squishy eye smile!
Stop it!! You're giving me some serious baby fever!! She is just too precious. I think I could have a girl if she'd grin at me like THAT!! Awwwww. You're such a blessed mommy. And she is obviously very happy.
You're going to doubt yourself every single day for the rest of her life. Because you're a good mom and good moms always wonder if they could do things different or better. At least that's what my doctor told me when I confessed my constant doubts!
I think she looks like Daniel across her eyes, especially in the first picture. Can't wait to see everyone on Sat.
Oh my goodness!!! She is a doll baby! You are doing a good job. I agree with Phoebe and Elizabeth...it's a guessing game and doubts make you a better mommy. You sort of just go with your mommy instincts. They are usually right! What a little blessing she is! Congrats to you both!
Oh I just LOVE these pictures! They are so wonderful! You all must be experts with the camera. I can't believe she is doing all these things (smiling, laughing) so soon! I think you may have a genius or early-learner, or something on your hands! She'll soon be saying, "I'm hungry" and correcting your grammar! Wow! And, sleeping like that at 4 weeks! I think you're doing great. Boy, I hope she gives Baby Miranda some lessons when I'm holding her on Sat.
Thanks for taking time to put up a post and all these pictures. I miss your frequent posts here, so I hope your bloggy person shows up soon!
M - she is so beautiful. You are such a great mama! Keep up the good work!
The squishy smile is too funny! Isn't it amazing how quickly they change and she's only a month old! I love sleeping baby pics. My daughter slept on her tummy and they look so cute tucked in the little ball they make.
Enjoy your little girl : )
Ohhhhh She's adorable! Stop worrying, your doing great. Her gaining weight and being such a happy baby prove that. Keep up the great work. :)
sooooooooooooooo cute!!
Her smiley pictures have to be the absolute cutest thing I've seen all week. Glad to see your family is doing great!
She is beautiful, Miriam! You and Daniel did a fabulous job!! Don't worry, you are doing everything just fine. Those big squishy eye grins prove it!
