$40 Cash Weekly Grocery Trip 2/17/10

Welcome back for another weekly peek at what I spend our grocery money on :) Call me crazy, but I do have fun sharing this with you every week.

Ahh, it is good to have eggs in the house again! Poor Daniel had (homemade and frozen) pancakes for breakfast 2 mornings in a row. He really prefers an egg sandwich most days. We should have enough eggs now to last a while, unless I go on some crazy baking spree - which may happen, and is why I bought extra eggs this week. They will also keep well if I don't get around to baking.

Here's the goods (Sorry for the poor lighting, the range light bulb blew just as I was going to take the picture!) :

And here's the price break-down:

10lbs. Russet Potatoes - $3.68
Gal. Orange Juice - $2.99
1/2 Gal. Milk - $1.89
(2) Pineapple - $1.99 ea.
(4) 12oz. Buddig Lunch Meat - $1.50 ea.
16oz. LOF Lunch Meat - $1.50
Whole Chicken - $2.87 ($.59/lb)
Pancake Syrup - $3.14
(2) 18ct. Large Eggs - $1.99 ea.
(6) Yoplait Yogurts - $.28 ea.
1.04lb. Ground Beef - $3.90
Apples - $1.78 ($1.00/lb)
Grapes - $.84 ($.88/lb)
Tomatoes - $.87 ($.99/lb)
Bananas - $.94 ($.49/lb)

Shelf Price - $66.28
Total OOP - $39.96
Saved - $26.32 / 40%

Again, this is $10 more than we would normally spend since we're stocking up before March comes, bringing a baby with it :) I used up the last of my coupons for the lunch meat, and I think we're set on that for a while.

I hope to post later in the week how I (plan to) make my own frozen Smoothie Mixes, so stay tuned!

  1. Where did you ever find grapes that cheap? Tell me where the sale is, and I'll go get some when I run out this morning (taking cookies to Diana for the kids club--I forgot them last night!).

  6. Oooooo...I just read this post in it's entirety. It just makes my mouth water--that pineapple, the bananas, grapes, tomatoes, lunch meat, orange juice. You really got good deals on this stuff. Did you get the apples that cheap at Food Lion? I might have to check on apples there. I got some at Kroger, Gala, for 1.69/lb. Most of the other varieties were 1.99/lb. It makes Onyx Hill look pretty good!

  7. Sally, no, the apples were from Kroger, too. They usually have a couple kinds for $1/lb. (or they'll advertise as 10lbs./$10).
